About This Course: This course introduces participants to the OTD Doctoral Capstone. Participants will review the OTD capstone requirements, process, and benefits.

Course Objectives:

  1. Explain an OTD Capstone
  2. Understand the process for the Capstone Experience (including prework, assignments, and activity timeline)
  3. State the benefits of an OTD Capstone (e.g. benefits for site, site mentors, students, and profession)
  4. Verbalize the difference between a Site Mentor/Content Expert and a Faculty Mentor
  5. Propose at least one personally actionable step towards creating a capstone project

Presenters: 

Dr. Lindsay B Williams, OTD, OTR/L, MT-BC, CPAM is a charter member of East Tennessee University Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program faculty. She has been an assistant professor since 2021 and currently holds the positions of Doctoral Capstone Coordinator and Graduate Coordinator for the OTD Program. Additionally, she provides OT services and clinical consultation for patients at ETSU's Gary E. Shealy Memorial ALS Clinic.Prior to joining academia at Emory & Henry University before her appointment at ETSU, she practiced occupational therapy in a privately-owned outpatient clinic for 6.5 years, treating both pediatric and adult clients with a focus on neurological conditions. Previously, she was an occupational therapist in a rural skilled nursing facility for 2.5 years. She still maintains her board certification as a music therapist, as well.She completed her Occupational Therapy Doctorate at Eastern Kentucky University in 2019, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Milligan University in 2013, and Bachelor of a Music in Music Therapy in 2009. She resides in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
Dr. Jennifer Susong Crowder, DSc, OTR has taught in the Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy program at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) since 2018. In this role, she coordinates PPOTD capstone projects. Additionally, she works as a Scientific Review Officer leading peer review for federally funded research. Prior to joining USAHS, she specialized in school-based occupational therapy with 17 years of practice experience in this setting. Early practice experience included three years with primarily adult populations covering outpatient, day treatment, inpatient, and skilled neuro-rehabilitation settings.She completed a Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Oklahoma in 2012, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at East Tennessee State University. She lives in Jonesborough, TN.
