About this Course: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a suicide prevention training that will equip the everyday person with the knowledge of signs of depression, how to ask someone if they are having thoughts of suicide, how to persuade an individual to seek help, and how to refer someone to resources available. You will learn what a safety plan looks like and how to create one. This training fulfills the Tennessee occupational therapy licensure requirement for suicide prevention education every 4* years.

*Beginning January 1, 2020, all licensed occupational therapists (not occupational therapy assistants) are required to have a minimum of 2 hours of training by a board approved provider relative to suicide prevention at least once every 4* years (i.e. at least once per two licensure renewal cycles). The statute requires this training every 5 years for occupational therapists practicing in Tennessee, though the licensure board recommends every 4 years to coincide with the rhythm of renewal cycles.

Course Objectives:

  1. Identify causes and warning signs of suicide.
  2. Ask a person if they are having thoughts of suicide.
  3. Describe strategies to persuade a person to stay safe.
  4. Explain how to refer a person to resources.
