About the Presentation: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a suicide prevention training that will equip the everyday person with the knowledge of signs of depression, how to ask someone if they are having thoughts of suicide, how to persuade an individual to seek help, and how to refer someone to resources available.

Course Objectives:

  1. Identify causes and warning signs of suicide
  2. Ask a person if they are having thoughts of suicide
  3. Describe strategies to persuade a person to stay safe
  4. Explain how to refer a person to resources.

Speaker: Lauren Woods, PhD, OTR/L, is a graduate from University of Tennessee Health Science Center (BS in Occupational Therapy in 2002). She has clinical experience in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, home health, and school system. She is a Certified Trauma Professional (CCTSI) and has her Thermal Agents Modality certification. She previously earned her Masters in Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration in Leadership. She recently earned her PhD in Educational Psychology at University of Memphis.
