About This Course: This course on lymphedema offered by certified lymphedema therapists provides occupational therapy practitioners a generalized understanding of lymphedema management. Covering the latest research and best practices, this course addresses the assessment, treatment, and prevention of lymphedema as well as when to refer to a specialist. Participants will learn about lymphatic system anatomy and physiology, risk factors, and basic therapeutic techniques. By the end of this course, attendees will have the skills and knowledge to effectively support patients with lymphedema, ultimately improving their quality of life.

Course Objectives:

  1. Identify the basic anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system
  2. Identify risk factors for lymphedema
  3. Identify basic treatment of lymphedema and prevention of worsening of symptoms
  4. Identify when and how to refer clients to a lymphedema specialist

Presenters: Lindsay Moore, MOT, OTR/L, CLT & Julia Adams, OTD, OTR/L, CLT

Lindsay Moore, MOT, OTR/L, CLT, is an occupational therapist that graduated from Milligan College with a Masters in Occupational Therapy in November 2017. She has been practicing since March 2018 and has experience in home health, acute care, and outpatient therapy. She became a certified lymphedema therapist in December 2021 through the Norton School and worked at an outpatient wound clinic in Maryville, TN that focused on treatment of lymphedema, as well as, post-cancer rehabilitation. She currently works in an outpatient clinic in Oak Ridge, TN.

Julia Adams, OTD, OTR/L, CLT, graduated from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with her doctorate in 2017 and has experience treating adults across multiple settings including acute care, inpatient rehab, and in outpatient clinics. She received her stroke certification in 2019 and lymphedema certification in 2022. In addition to treating adults with cognitive, orthopedic, and neurological impairments, her primary focus has been on lower extremity, head and neck, and post-neurological and orthopedic injury lymphedema in the outpatient setting.
