Tuesday, January 12, 2021, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Category: District Event
January 12, 2021 6-7pm CST, 7-8 PM EST Presented by Hannah Smith, MBA Hosted by the Northeast District
Course Description Despite that 94% of upper-limb amputations occur at the digit and metacarpal levels, little technological development has happened, leaving working-age people with only cosmetic options after finger loss. This session will give a deep dive into the partial hand and finger amputee population, how Naked Prosthetics has engineered solutions for them, and the critical role OTs can play in positive patient outcomes.
Course Objectives By the end of the course, the attendees will be able to...
- Compare the percentage of finger amputations to that of other upper extremity amputations
- Recognize the impact finger amputations have on heavy manual laborers
- Identify the current prosthetic interventions available for partial hand amputations
- Recognize the important steps to create successful patient outcomes with body-driven prostheses
- Identify how therapists can help improve prosthetic function and contribute to post-delivery care
