About This Course: TNOTA's OT Compliance Day is an opportunity for OTs and OTAs to take continuing education courses required for their licensure. OTs and OTAs are required to have 2 hours of Ethics & Jurisprudence coursework each licensure cycle (every 2 years). OTs are required to have 2 hours of suicide prevention training every 2 licensure cycles (every 4 years). Due to the nature of suicide prevention, the event will not be live streamed or recorded.Attendees can register for E & J, suicide prevention, or both. This event is open to any OT practitioner (TNOTA members and non-members). The center holds up to 200 individuals.

Schedule:

  • 8 AM-10 AM: Suicide Prevention with Megan Gaylord, LPC-MHSP
  • 10 AM- 12 PM: Ethics and Jurisprudence with Nina Woods, MBA, OTR/L

Course Objectives:

After this occupational therapy continuing education course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic principal of ethics
  2. Understand the principles of the AOTA Code of Ethics and the NBCOT Code of Conduct
  3. Understand the ethical decision making process recognize appropriate ethical behavior
  4. Identify causes and warning signs of suicide.
  5. Ask a person if they are having thoughts of suicide.
  6. Describe strategies to persuade a person to stay safe.
  7. Explain how to refer a person to resources.
